*settles down with and s, and bashes cushions to make them comfy for GB and Whisky*
Dunno, Kerr. Who *was* the finest swordsman the Dr ever met?

Two things.
One - please don't set up conversatiosn with swearwords in the title - you'll only make us edit them.
Two - the challenge was for other people to set the challenges. Otherwise we'll be here all year going so obscure that neither of us will score points. I'm sure we could dig really deep
Would this be a reference to either Doctor Three or Four, by the way?
Off the top of my head I'd imagine it was a boast during either the Sea Devils or Androids of Tara.

*pours *
*offers one to Jimster, one to Kerr and one to Ben*
Was I right? Was I?
Do I get to set the next question?
*sips*
*licks fingers*
These s are awfully sticky

Nah, Grendel was only the greatest swordsman on Tara, and the Doctor beat him. I can see the Doctor saying the words and I think it's a Tom Baker. One of two stories.
Oh wait... you rotten sausage. It's some guard from someone's court. Queen Elizabeth or Cleopatra. I'm sure it's not a specific named individual.

Eek - there's that North-South divide for you again. I've only just realised that the word 'sod', which I'd always associate with turf, is actually a diminutive of sodomite. To prevent offending anyone, I've changed the word in my previous post to 'sausage' - which, if you put after the word 'silly', describes me quite accurately I think.
Many apologies, GB. Please make use of the official Towers Smelling Salts.

Both spellings appear in this page... seems even the Beeb can't decide! I declare a draw!

I think the negative polarity of this conversation has been reversed...

Awix Posted Jun 15, 2005
It was a captain in Cleopatra's bodyguard... mentioned, I think, in Masque of Mandragora episode three.
Sorry.

Now I remember why I left this place

Oops, did I swear? Sorry, late in the afternoon.
Your italic colleague was the one who suggested that the person that gets the right answer should set the next question, you can duke it out between the two of you whose rules you want .
And Awix is right, it's from Mandragora 'You know, the finest swordsman I ever met was a captain in Cleopatra's guard, he showed me a few pointers'.

But then the Egyptian Kopesh is a different technique to straight-bladed swords so the pointers wouldn't really have much use...
