I did in the main, but I'm still not convinced by the 45min format. Jabe's death was clrealy supposed to be a big emotional thing, but I didn;t feel like I'd had enough time to get to know the character to care about her. I ended up caring more about the Steward's death, beucsae we'd got to like him listening to his conversations with 'Control'.

I like the new format but i agree that the steward was easier to care about as he seemed more real.
Thought the episode was well done and i liked that the Dr din't wimp out and save Cassandra.
Do you think they're seting up a story arc to cover what happened to all the other time lords?

When episode one referenced 'the war' I thought it might just be a throwaway, but now it looks to be very important.
Last of the Time Lords, eh? Hmmm.
Very good to see the show's still got the biggest audience share for the evening too. Even with such a dramatic dro-off it's still very healthy. And I bet they soar agaon for the episode with the dalek in...

Ant and Dec dropped off too though, so it could just be a combanation of the clocks changing and warmer evening weather.
Last of the Timelords, heard that phrase before A way of jettisoning baggage, or a major plot-arc? Must have beena pretty big war, putting the lines from both eps together we're talking about massive destruction, not just Gallifrey V. whoever.
Shades of the 6th Doctor in the death of Cassandra too, which is no bad thing, in my book.

I saw on another site a lot of people suggesting that it was humanity responsible for the destruction of Gallifrey and the war ~ also giving the Dr a reason to feel guilty because of his association with earth.

Mmm, I dunno about that. I mean, you'd think he'd mention it to Rose during the "My planet's gone, before it's time" speech. You would, wouldn't you. It'd be "My planet's gone you bxstxrds and it was all you fault". You'd be leaving the Nestene to it.

yeah i just really don't want it to be the daleks ~ too obvious and it needs to be something new.
I'd love to see another long term baddie along the lines of the master ~ someone who could match the Dr

Nah, not the Daleks. We're clearly talking about a *big* war though, not just Gallifrey. Evil timelords from another universe? No? Just a thought...

Hey if we can drag out the old alternative universe plot ~ how about making it an evil Dr.
It'd save on the casting budget

Mmm. But would CE want paying twice? Bit of a naff idea though, isn't it.
How about a Timelord civil war between those who wanted to be involved in the rest of the universe, and the isolationists? Other planets could have been dragged in initially as allies of the interventionists, then you'd have 'evil' types races supporting the isolationists because they didn't want the Timelords interfering with their conquests.

Not bad ~ and with the easy access to time travel the evil timelords could bring back any of the old baddies to take pot shots at the Dr ~ great excuse for Daleks cybermen and all the other old faves to show up.

As long as it's not just the Ancestor Cell story being plopped into TV continuity...
I heard a few words and phrases being casually bandied about at the party which sounded like they might be significant and/or relevent to the state of the cosmos in the new series.

Maybe they're going to save the whole "whats happened to Gallifrey?" story for the big Xmas special.Though that would only still work if Eccleston is going to do it.

Yep Awix- 'Bad wolf senario', for starters. I'm planning a quiet night tonight so I think I'll do some careful re-watching.

damn must have missed that one maybe i should watch with the subtitles up.
Watch once for the sheer joy and several times more just to make sure you get all the plot hints.

It suddenly occurs to me that the great big bad wolf of mythology, who does something fairly major at the end of the world in Norse legend, is called Fenris. Which is almost certainly not significant.
