And peoples thoughts on it are?
Personally I wasn't that impressed. Other than getting to here the new Doctor it has nothing new in it. Still I suppose we have to wait until at least March before it is on so they shouldn't be giving away too much at the mo'. At least it is another piece of evidence that I haven't just imagined the whole return thing.

I am really not looking forward to the new series, it has to be said. I think it's going to be a real tragedy because they're trying to bring back a series which was outstandingly brilliant when it was first in existence and now they're going to try recreating that brilliance. I think they're going to try too hard to make it what it was and they're going to fail fantastically. Part of me thinks the series should never have left in 1989 (if I was Controller of BBC1 it would still be around now) and part of me thinks it should stay in the past where it rightfully belongs. Why try to recreate a piece of genius like that? It's like trying to rewrite "Macbeth" or another Shakespeare play - i.e. impossible!!
Sorry to rant and rave but I feel strongly about this. I think the Daleks will be the butt of the jokes as well, especially for the audience of 2004 who are used to far scarier things that the Daleks. Anyone agree with me?

Two things to consider here. Firstly, it's not actually a teaser, in the commonly-used sense of the word. It's the last few seconds from a series of clips that were shown to journalists last week. The clips for all of the other shows were about a minute or two long and were quite representative, whereas this was just a teensy clip to remind them that Doctor Who is coming back. Nothing more. Unfortunately, this one clip got more attention than any other, which is unfair really as 'Casanova' and 'According to Bex' both look great.
But it's been blown up as a teaser in the same was as Star Wars might do, which is completely wrong. rest assured, a real trailer is on its way in the New Year and then we'll have a betetr idea of what to expect.
As for the new series trying to recapture the past, all they want to do is tell good stories. Without spoiling anything, they're doing things that sinply weren't thought of back in 1989 in a way that they hope both reflects modern production values and reacts against modern TV. It's working hard to be something truly different, in the same way that when he was playing Robin Hood, Michael Praed wasn't all that fussed by everything Richard Greene did in the 1950s in the same part.
It's aimed at a new audience too, so while they hope us oldies like it, it's not us it's being made for. Which I think is a very good thing. We have 26 years of great Doctor Who that won't be affected by anything to come, while a wole new generation has it all to look forward to. Lucky blighters

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Jan 14, 2005
I have to admit that after some initial trepidations I'm actually quite looking forward to the new series... I even got all excited when the possibly-teaser was on TV the other day.
As for not wanting a new series because the original was already brilliant... c'mon, as much as I love it, quite a fair proportion of the original run was utter s**te!

Well, what about the new trailers that have been airing on BBC1? Personally, I thought the first couple of seconds one (Doctor and Rose, theme music, nothing else) was an excellent idea. A straw poll of people at work revealed that *everyone* new it was for Doctor Who, including people with no love of SF, the series or anything unsoap-related.
The longer one... well, it's a bit naff really, isn't it? Dodgy echo effects that sound like they've come off a kids' karaoke machine, and CE leaning forward in that weird way that people that have had one too many do. I can see what they're going for, but somehow it all falls a bit flat. Which is a shame, because we know Auntie can 'do' trailers, just look at the ones for The Con, or whatever it was.

I must admit to liking the trailer a lot. It has given me a chance to see the console room better and to listen to the theme while not actually giving out any real spoilers, which is a definate bonus to my way of thinking. I also find myself having to fight not to shout "Yes" when ever he asks that question too, but maybe I am just getting too carried away.
Five and a bit days to go according to my desktop countdown doofer.

... and I've been updating the Edited Entry Doctor Who Who's Who too.
Might think about dividing the entry up though. It could do with being a little shorter and easier to navigate. How about by Decade?

Who's going to tell BBC News that 'Kahn' is a character in The Enemy. Odd that the caption is right, but it's wrong all through the article.
