Somewhere in a thread hanging off this page you'll find a list of 42 people to play the Doctor...
Mind you, that was pre Eccleston and Tennant.

If we're counting the ten TV Doctors, plus Peter Cushing, my favourite is William Hartnell, the first Doctor.
It often shuffles around, but currently my I list the Doctors of the original era in this order of preference:
1. William Hartnell
2. Patrick Troughton
3. Jon Pertwee
4. Tom Baker
5. Peter Davison (yes, pretty much in chronological order, but wait)
6. Peter Cushing
7. Sylvester McCoy
8. Colin Baker
9. Hugh Grant, from The Curse of Fatal Death
10. Jim Broadbent from CoFD and Victoria Wood
11. Rowan Atkinson, from CoFD
12. Joanna Lumley
13. Richard E. Grant from CoFD
14. Paul McGann
15. Richard E. Grant from Scream of the Shalka (animated series)
Sadly, based solely on their performances on-screen, I'm not a fan of the 'Withnail' Doctors.
And of the new era, it seems to be going in the same direction
1. Christopher Eccleston
2. David Tennant

What was the Curse of the fatal death actually about. I've heard alot about it but not actually seen it!

Have a look at the Doctor Who Episode Guide entry - there's a link to it off the main Doctor Who page here (which you can get to by clicking the banner). There's a summary of The Curse of Fatal Death in the 1990s entry.
But briefly, it's about the Master trying to settle old scores, the Doctor falling in love and then making one final heroic gesture for the universe.
It's also the best Doctor Who story of the 1990s, even if it was a comic sketch. Oh, and it was written by Steven Moffat, who wrote The Empty Child and Girl in the Fireplace.

Sylvester McCoy.
Then Troughton, Tennant, Grant (Scream of the Shalka) and Davison... and McGann.
You just asked for one, didn't you?
