Sneaky anti-religious stance in Torchwood?

They had it in the very beginning; the guy who was brought back from the dead, when asked what it was like, was shocked to realise there was nothing. So there is clearly no heaven in the world of Torchwood....although you can come back from the dead.
The paedophile in the Fairy episode, when trying to get locked up, questioned the existence of God. I wonder if there is an atheist theme being subtly explored in this series? So far, this only constitutes scant evidence, so if anyone spots a bit of atheist comment creeping in, do tell.
I'm all for it!

Russell T. Davies, the creator of "Torchwood," has openly admitted that he is an atheist, so that may have something to do with it.
