The red Father Christmas was created by Coca-Cola for an ad campaign that began in the 1930s and still continues! Haddon Sundblom was the artist who made Saint Nick red. He continues to haunt Coca-Cola adverts to this day, and is an ever-continuing reminder of the power of blatant commercialism.
This must end - we demand on H2G2 a Father Christmas smiley - in Blue, as the first Father Christmas legend, from Russia, depicted Father Frost as wearing Blue. Alternatively, he could wear Brown, as traditionally considered in England since Elizabethan times and before.
But not Commercialised Red.

I concur with BB's idea.

The whole idea of Christmas has been stolen by profiteers! And we demand a traditional version, to support the original spirit and idealism of Chritmas. smiley - smiley

Yeah, I'll go with that.

Also for folks in Southampton University there is a talk on Christmas on Tuesday 4th in Arts L/T H entilted
Christ Misunderstood or
Christmas Understood.

Which might be interesting.

Nick

Surely that's the point isn't it? I mean... If he wore red, EVERYONE would see him. smiley - erm But as he "really" wears blue, then he's camouflaged and that's why no one sees him! smiley - biggrin

What annoyes me are all the people who dress up in silly red furry costumes, and then either pretend to be "Santa". But fail miserably as they don't give all they have to someone else. OR just get drunk... smiley - grr

The true nature of "Christmas" is Sacrifice. Meaning, that if you truely "Loved" your neighbour (anyone who isn't you), then you would do anything and give everything for them.
We so readily assume love to be selfish in nature, and look at Christmas about "What we can get".smiley - erm

When was the last time you asked someone... "What did you GIVE for Christmas?"??? smiley - huh

It just shows how selfish our human hearts (in general) are. smiley - cry

We should have Christmas because we WANT to GIVE and make others happy, NOT! Because the media, and companies TELL us we should!

So smiley - tongueout to Red Santa and all he stands for!

smiley - biggrin
