Author

Gene Rodman Wolfe was born in 1931 in New York. He grew up in Texas where he attended The University of Houston. In 19--, he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Wolfe started writing in the 1950s, but didn't start writing full-time until his retirement in 1984. Although Wolfe is seen by many of his contemporaries as the greatest living writer, he has very little mainstream popularity. This may be due to his use of high level language (in modern English, arcaic English and several other languages) that many readers find cryptic. Most of his wrting is technically science fiction, but tends to read more like fantasy or even historical fiction.

Other Careers

The man invented the machine that makes Pringles. He even knew that there would always be crumbs in the bottom of the cans. When he was told how many chips they planned on putting into each can, he said make them thicker or put in less, as they will be crushed under their own weight.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
