Are there really supermarket own brand versions of Marmite? Which ones sell it? I might go and try some as an experiment.

smiley - erm well I'm sure that Sainsbury's do it, but i use Lidl's version (called Chira) which, in a blind test, I couldn't tell apart.... (well I'm lying about the "blind" bit of the test...)

I have no objections to yeast, it's just I prefer it to be added to things, like say malt, sugar and water, rather than have something extracted from it.

Erm - so how many alcoholic products do you know that still include the yeast? (apart from the obvoius exception of WeissBier...)

I seem to remember something about Marmite being, originally, a by-product of the brewing process...

You eat enough Marmite,
It makes you thirsty,
You drink some beer,
It makes you peckish,

LOL 'virtuous circle'? Assuming that was intentional?
Loved Marmite as a child. It's a bit salty for my taste now.

Jon - not an original nickname, but a unique sort of chap

Down with Marmite and all things Marmitey, it tastes bad, it looks awful and smells like something really smelly that has been left in the sun on a hot day in smellytown.
