In a dark and smoke-weary cafe, at an indecently late hour, in the unanticipated company of worn-out literary rebels, defeated bohemian anarchists, leftover flower children and other unseemly if not unlikely malcontents, a gauntlet is thrown down: compose four ten-syllable poems entitled 'Love', each touching on one of the four elements — earth, air, fire and water. give up
my share
of air
for
you

love is sometimes like
rust just slow cool fire

inside me
is your retreat
to the sea

where rock begins
and footprints end
