Zaphodista table smileys
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
Twinkle has made an awesome little program at http://www.geocities.com/dragondreamer.geo/ that allows you to create graphics through tables. By filling in dots of color on a big grid, it will translate your picture into an HTML table, which can then be inserted in your Guide ML page. I assume the moderators will still hide it if they feel your "table" displays an obscene or copyrighted picture, but I've seen these tables on several other pages throughout h2g2, so it looks safe to use innocuous images this way.
Twinkle adds some helpful notes: "You can double-click a color to customize it. The smiley color can be imitated with FFCC00."
I wasn't sure how to manipulate the positions of table-smileys until I tracked down the master of tables, JAVAM, who suggested, 'Try sticking an align="left" or align="center" or align="right" tag inside the <TABLE> tag e.g. <TABLE cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="1" align="right">. In theory I think the text in your page should then appear on the left and wrap round the table positioned on the right. But make sure you put the text after the table, not before.'
[Sorry, but these graphics only show up if you're using Internet Explorer. I'll try to update them if anyone finds a way to make them compatible with Netscape.]
