There are some reasons for learning Latin:
- you learn to think logically
- it's easier for you to learn other languages then
- you can read great texts (funny ones, exiting ones, erotic ones - everything).
But if learning Latin is only learning tables by heart for you, then something went absolutely wrong..

Also you become much better at taxonomy...and for that matter, etymology in general.

Latin's great!!! Although my reasons might be something to with the fact we spend most of our time in lessons telling jokes and talking about my teacher's days in university. You can be put off I guess if all the grammar is just thrown at you and you are expected to pick it up straight away but I have always loved Latin.
How many schools still teach it? Hasn't it died out in most schools?

Well, my old high school is phasing out German in favor of Latin, which is kind of nice although it would be even nicer if they kept the German as well.
