Surgery

1 Conversation

Once considered a form of assault and battery, surgery has been elevated to an art form by the ability of its practitioners (surgeons) to perform their manipulations without the knowledge of the practitionee (see anesthesia). Feats such as the removal of organs or appendages (in part or in total) and, sometimes, the replacement of said organs with those of another organism consistently draw crowds of spectators. Historically, such performances were available for viewing only by the gentry in “operating theaters”; however, with the advent of television and satellite transmission, the entire population (save those living outside the service area of their local cable television company) of earth may now enjoy the excitement and drama of this art.
