Gardening diary September -
Created | Updated Nov 15, 2005
The month is almost over, with no recent entries to my diary.
The nights are drawing in and the days are much cooler. It won't be long before the first frosts of Autumn arrive.
There are still so many plants flowering in the garden, it really has been a successful year.
My Lespedeza is in full flower, long racems of fuschia pink pea like flowers cover every stem.
The Caryopteris is a mass of blue flowers, in clusters all over the bush.
Some of the hardy geranuims are still blooming and the Asclepias is now in its second flush of flowers.
My hardy Cyclamen are just begining a long period of flowering. Also the michaelmas daisies and sedums, are providing some late food for bees and butterflies.
I've planted some more bulbs for the spring. Crocus, narcissi and a couple of unusual fritillaries. I also have a new plant, a Heuchera named venus...Well it had to be done <biggrin>
I now have a permanent resident in the pond, a large golden frog. Its there most days and lives
amongst the ornamental grasses.

The month is already halfway through, and the leaves are changing to their Autumn colours. I have managed to get most of the pruning done. Though some shrubs are still flowering, so i'm reluctant to prune them yet.
Two of my fuschias have developed rust, so i've had to prune them early.

This will likely be my last entry for this year.
As the weather stayed mild for so long, plants are still flowering and growing. Its been a very odd autumn.
I did get the last of the pruning done, although one fuschia is still covered in flowers. That will have to wait untill next year to be cut back. I was very surprised to see my ceanothus is flowering again, also alot of bulbs have started growing. Poor plants must be very confused.
3 of my virburnums are flowering now, they will go on all winter, adding some nice colour to the garden and scent, if you've a mind to brave the rain to go and smell them.
All in all its been a successful year with the garden. One or two plants died, but i almost expected that, as they were tempremental.
