Characters
TJ
TJ (played by Tajh Mowry) is a 12-year-old whizz-kid that was put into the tenth grade since he was much too clever for his fourth grade teacher. Unfortunately, the little Smart Guy was put in his elder brother, Marcus' class, much to both of their disgust. TJ is the cleverest compared to his brother and sister - Marcus is frequently copying TJ's homework! TJ is a loveable character, who often finds himself in scrapes with Marcus and his wacky friend, Mo, due to the fact that he is 3 years younger than them and often forgets this and attempts things beyond his years.
Marcus
Marcus (Jason Weaver) isn't the cleverest member of the Henderson family. He will often ask TJ for help on anything, even outside of school. His best friend Mo will often be seen near him, but, in some episodes, Marcus and Mo develop a rivalry, which will nearly always result in TJ resolving it.
Yvette
Yvette (Essence Atkins) is TJ's elder sister and is quite serious. She expects high of herself and the others around her. She is the school paper's editor and is proud of her position. She is quite clever and is seventeen years of age.
Mo
Mo (Omar Gooding), or Morris L Tibbs, is nearly always seen lurking around the Henderson's house, normally looking for food! He hardly ever goes home and is mostly at the bottom of strange happenings. Mo practically lives with the Hendersons and Floyd has become his surrogate father.
Floyd
Floyd (John Marshall Jones) is TJ, Marcus and Yvette's father, whose occupation is a roofer. He is thrilled at having a genius son, but is very conscious about not being able to help TJ with his schoolwork.
Episodes
Many of the Smart Guy episodes stick in peoples minds and you sometimes hear people repeating phrases and lines from the show. As most American programmes they follow a certain format. Such as the episode when Yvette and Mo both try to win a Volkswagen Beatle, get out at the same time only to find a man, who was supposed to have already left, in the boot. Or when TJ and Yvette plan the prom, TJ hasn't found a date, then Marcus, Yvette and Floyd find him three dates and Mo makes up a plan to save the evening. There are many episodes and each one of them is made comical by the attitude of their characters. The show is very interesting and makes many laugh.
