Future Innovations

Materials Science - I don't think we are that far from SERIOUS innovations in materials - walls made out of pure diamond, roads that "heal" themselves, clothing that adjust themselves to external weather conditions etc.
Micro-machines - lots of work going on as we speak. Probably will lead to the innovations I have just described above. In addition, these machines will be able to travel through your blood system, munching on cholesterol deposits and suchlike.
Genetic Research - We won't be able to get away from it I'm afraid. However I don't think the scare stories will materialise. Most of the effects will be in disease control and prevention.
Space Travel - The first space tourist gives us a glimpse about where it's going. In twenty years, we will be able to travel into space for a few thousand pounds in today's money. Real innovation will come from private business, and not from governments. We won't travel to the stars, but we may well be able to take a 2 week vacation on the Mare Imbrium before the century is out.
