This is fab, TC! (I have avoided drinking this tea ever since my first go at it as a teenager - the idea of any sort of cream or sugar in tea makes my stomach turn)

There are two tea museums in Norden-Norddeich. I have checked both the websites and neither of them have a page in English unfortunately. So, apart from that link not being there, and if no one else has anything to say, as far as I'm concerned the entry is finished.

I'll be interested to see if it gets put in the Life section, on food, or in the "Earth" section under Germany, where it would neatly fit in B'Elana's project on "Traditional North German Food".

One point to make might be that one of the health benefits of drinking tea was that it involved *boiling the water*, which kills off all the delicious things swimming around in there ready to attack smiley - monster Properly clean water is a relatively new invention for people not living in the mountains where it comes from...

(Same effect with the alcohol in beer, of course, which is why people weren't just drinking water in the first place...)

Oh, no, don't worry about it. All in a day's work. smiley - winkeye

We get that a lot at medieval fairs, people going on about the debauchery of the middle ages because they would drink beer all day. But that's because the water would kill you. smiley - laugh

I see that tea is the subject on the FP this week (by the way, Mala - you're QOTD). I wonder if I ought to link the entry on Chinese Tea, as well?

Why not? It's relevant, and if they ever fix the nofollow tag thing, more cross links mean a higher google ranking smiley - whistle

Well, Lil, do you think I've put it into context enough? I haven't used that useful link you gave, and I wondered if I ought to, to explain anything more to people who have no idea about German geography, or the fact that Germans, generally, drink coffee and think tea is for freaks, whereas this is what everyday folk drink in that little corner of the country....

Personally, I feel it's ready, but that's just my opinion - so I'd like a bit more feedback from you peers here. Do any of you feel left in the lurch about any part of it where I might have taken for granted certain bits of knowledge?

Yes, very nice.

I remember being surprised by the tea-ceremony at a small local inn in a farming hamlet during a cycle-trip in the rural northwest of Germany in 1995. It was an elaborate sophisticated ritual one just didn't expect in the seemingly endless windswept plains of grassland and cows.

For further reading: Karl Wassenberg 'Tee in Ostfriesland', I'm not sure but I believe the book was translated in English.

I've got a thick book on the subject that I bought at the Tea Museum but I haven't got through it yet. AS I say, there might be more to be got out of this sort of thing and I may write a sequel, but I'm happy with this little thing as it is.
