My Adventure with Pokemon Episode 5

The next day, Charmeleon, Hitmontop and I were in our cabin on the SS Aqua, due to arrive in Slateport city in two days, I was searching for May on the video phone. After asking around a few pokemon centers in Hoenn, I finally found out she was in Slateport city, where we were headed. A minute later, May came onto the screen, there was a white bird pokemon on her head with blue stripes on its wings and a short orange one with a beak sat next to her, I recognised these as her Combusken and Wingull.
"Hey Alex, what's up?" she said,
"May, I'm on my way to Hoenn!" i said excitedly, May's face lit up,
"Oh my god! Really?" she said "Hey wait, if you're coming over here from Johto, and I assume you're coming by ferry, then..." she thought for a minute, I finished her sentence for her,
"...I'll be in Slateport in two days!". May and I were both very excited, we had only ever spoken over video phone and had never actually met.
"Is that your Charmeleon over there?" asked May, looking over my shoulder,
"Yeah" I said "actually, that's why i'm coming to Hoenn..." I told her about Charmeleon and our plans of going to Lavaridge.
"Hey! I'm headed that way too," she produced her trainer card, because she lived in Hoenn, her card looked slightly different to mine, there were two badges at the bottom of it "I'm headed to Mauville city north of here and after that, Lavaridge, since there's a gym there too".
"Ok then," I said "I'll see you in two days" and closed the link.
Two days later the ferry arrived in Slateport city, I went straight to the pokemon center to meet May,
"Alex!" shouted May as soon as we got in the door "Ok, before anything else, i've got something for you here" She held something out, even though it looked different to the one Silver had shown me, i recognised it as a pokedex, it was sky blue and had a flip-up screen "you see? It's just like mine!" said May, producing an identical, although green , pokedex. May's father was a pokemon proffesor who adapted the Jhoto pokedex, including information on pokemon found in Hoenn, "well, you know what I'm going to say now!", I did, May and I had been itching to battle for almost as long as we'd known each other, we ran outside to the square in front of the pokemon center,
"Two pokemon?" I asked,
"Sounds good to me, GO Combusken!!" she shouted, throwing a pokeball, producing the orange pokemon, I sent out Hitmontop,
"Hitmontop, mach punch!" Hitmontop charged at Combusken, a second before the punch connected May yelled,
"double team!", Combusken produced several copies of itself, forming a circle around Hitmontop (double team was a tricky move, as it not only hid it's user but also moved it as a means of dodging attacks),
"Alright Hitmontop, hit them all with rapid spin!" Hitmontop spiraled round hitting the copies, causing them to dissapear, when there was only one copy left, I said "now use triple kick!",
"scratch" said May, Combusken deflected Hitmontop's first two kicks but the third send it flying backwards.
"Don't take that combusken! Use double kick!" Before Hitmontop could react, Combusken leapt forwards and delivered a powerful kick followed by another, "now flamethrower!" said May. Combusken sent a torrent of fire from its beak,
"Hitmontop, rapid spin!" I said. With the flamethrower spinning around Hitmontop I said "now attack with triple kick!",
"double team combusken!" said May. But Combusken's copies got caught up in the spiraling flamethrower and the triple kick connected, knocking Combusken out.
"It's clear you've trained it well" said May, reterning Combusken to its pokeball "now I choose Wingull!" she threw another pokeball, producing the bird pokemon "it was Wingull who single-handedly defeated Brawley's Makuhita, do you really think Hitmontop stands a chance?" she asked with a smirk (Brawley was a fighting type gym leader and Makuhita was his best pokemon).I couldn't help but feel that May was exaggerating.
"I think he can try, Hitmontop use rapid spin!". Hitmontop started spinning on the spot,
"I'm afraid that won't work twice" said May, grinning "ice beam!" Wingull sent a beam of bright blue light from the air in front of its beak, which spiralled around Hitmontop, but then froze solid, "now aerial ace!" With impossible speed, Wingull crashed through the ice and sent Hitmontop flying.
"Hey Alex, what's up?" she said,
