Sexual orientation and homophobia

1 Conversation

I am writing this because of all the misconceptions around homosexuals and people who choose different sexual orientations.
People who are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, had a sex change, or cross dressers do not have a disease. Their way of life is not contagiouse, and they cannot "make" someone gay. I have read articles about how gay teens need seriouse counseling, and moral support, but this is a lie. People who are gay do not need counseling, or any other form of treatment. THEY DO NOT HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION!!! Therefore, there is nothing to cure. They may need moral support if people are ostricising them, but all other forms of "helping," such as sending them to get psycho-analysed are only going to make matters worse. The problem with counseling is that it makes them feel like they have a condition that is bad, and needs to be cured. Next point.

These people are not child molesters, perverts, hoarders of child porn, sex maniacs, or prostitutes. There is a small percentage of child molesters, perverts, hoarders of porn, sex maniacs and prostitutes that ARE gay, but the percentage is so small, you could probably fit them all into a small room. Just because these people are of a different lifestyle, it does not mean that they are sex crazed maniacs that will rape your children and make merry with your spouse. next point.

God doesn't give a damn if you're gay. I've heard too many people say how god will send you too hell if you're gay. It's not true. Here's my reasoning -- God supposedly made the first humans Adam and Eve. God also supposedly controls everything that we do, what happens to us, and who we become. God also infuses us with a personality, and people who are differently sexually oriented are so all their lives. Therefore, (and this leads to my next point,) how -- if god made who you are -- can he shun you if he made you? Being differently sexually oriented is not a choice -- it's a state of being. So god can't shun what he himself made. next point.

Homophobia hurts everyone. If you discriminate on people based on their sexual orientation, it only hurts you more. That person could be the best friend that you ever had -- if you had given them a chance to be your friend. I'm not going to get into statistics on how homosexual teens are more likely to commit suicide, because statistics are usually manipulated and misrepresented, so i'm going to stick to some logic. If you make fun of people because of his or her sexual orientation, that person is only going to hate themselves. That person could be the next Einstein or Martin Luthor King Junior, but they wouldn't be brave enough to say anything. Just think -- you may have caused thar.

In conclusion, people who are different are not necessarily bad. If they are different in the context that they are homocidal maniacs, then they probably ARE bad, but that's only them. Jusst accept people for who they are, and forget their orientation, because in the end, it doesn't matter.
