Hitch-hiking using Lorries

1 Conversation

Lorries are one of the easiest ways of getting lifts. Partly because they only need one traveller (the driver), but can fit two, and partly because the driver are always willing to give a lift to the aspiring hitchiker.

Where to get one

The best place to get a lift from a lorry is somewhere where there are lots of them: seaports, distributions centres (Sainsburys' got one quite near Dover), and motorways (highly unadvisable as it is illegal).

The best companies

The best companies for hitch-hiking are small ones, not like Tesco or Sainsburys'. The reason for this is that everyone hitches lifts from big companies, and there is hardly ever a spare seat. The ones to look for are ones with no "Tesco" or "Trifid Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters" one, but are plain red or white or blue (bar the odd "Springford Van Hire" that may be here and there). A company name on the trailer is the sign of a bad Hitch-hiker's resource.
