Since English is, infact, /the/ Europian language, why should we be forced to learn French. Or any other Europian language, for that matter...

Well, it is polite and useful. We just don't! It's probably through our laziness that other people speak english.

Well I don't speak French because, quite frankly, I'm c*** at it.
Just to explain my last posting: English is made up of Anglo-Saxon, some Viking (wherever they came from), Latin, French and probably some other stuff as well. Therefor, we are technically /the/ Europian language. Since Europe is becoming one massive super-country, will they all have to learn English as there new first language?
Also, I think that it's partly America's fault (what isn't ) that English is a widely spoken language. As America is probably the most dominant super-power in the world, their language (well, ours really) is going to carry a lot of importance, and will consequently spread.

Do Americans speak English???
Geez mate that's news to us Aussies!!!!
Come to think of it .... there are so many accents and idioms one wonders whether the English speak English
In Oz we think we speak Australian-English (whatever that is), the Americans speak American-English (ditto) which makes me wonder which form of English is English-English
