I thought that the rule had changed, so that Manchingham would have the option of dropping one of their players to level the number of penalty takers. The logic being that the team with the fewer players have their better penalty takers come around more quickly and hence have a theoretical advantage in a sudden death situation.

Oh! ... I hadn't heard about that ... mind you, my Laws Of Association Football by the International Football Association Board are dated 1999-2000, so it may well be the case ...
... perhaps Androyd or Baldrick can enlighten us (both newly qualified referees ..

Actually the correct answer you are all struggling for is that the team with more players has to reduce it numbers to that of the opposition BEFORE the kicks take place. Team captain makes the decision and it is the duty of the referee to ensure that only equal numbers start the kicks from the penalty mark. SO take that point away at once!!!

Can I have half a point as I had the right idea? I just missed the compulsion/option part.

Wow! ..it just goes to show I shouldn't trust an old copy of the law book!!!!
Two years ago, our local village team reached a cup final by winning on penalties in the semi. My little brother was voted man-of-the-match after being sent off - the reasoning behind his award was that he's rubbish at penalties and therefore allowed our best penalty taker to take two pens!!!!
Anyway ... I'm going to give Androyd and Grey Desk a point, but I'd feel really rotten taking a point away from someone ... som I'm going to leave it there!!!!!!
