Abject apology Alex,

Unfortunately I had another very bad down-turn health wise suffering a series of mini-strokes and now having the so called "Suicide" severe Cluster Headaches added to my growing list of companions on life's journey so I completely missed this message back in July as by the time I got back to the boards it must have already slipped off my current threads list.

Most of the stuff in the front section is directly quoted from the site I linked to in the article and so perhaps the best solution would be to simply add in appropriate referencing and/or re-inforcing the comments about the source earlier in the piece.

I confess it was so long ago I wrote the original of this it might also be some individual sections actually come from other sources too but I have long since lost track of where or what they were now.

I know this isn't ideal though so, not least as I'm pretty well going to be unable to go back and researtch all the original stuff again and it would be unfair to expect you or anybody else to do so, I leave it to you to decide if it would be better to just move on to a more deserving article as I'm sure that even if the exams have now passed by sucessfully life is still as hectic as ever if not more so assuming you passed with flying colours as expected. smiley - smiley

Apology again for the delay and I await your advice on what the best way forward might be.

All the best.

Peter

Cool no problem just ditch it then although the one comment I would add is that even the site I used to get the "official" medical opinions from themselves quoted large chunks from others work all be it with such references as I am suggesting.

Certianly not worth worrying about though so was fun while it lasted and I remain proud about the 80% plus of the article that is writen literally in and from my own blood sweat and tears. LOL

(Oh, and of course, the old version is still available in your Personal Space. It won't be in the Edited Guide, meaning that search engines won't be able to find it, but you can still link to it.)

As I said no problem but I hope nobody here ever quotes from other sources then as at no point in my original was it anything but clear I was quoting formal medical opinions about the condition and even quoting the source before then adding my own perspective in the second section completely written by me.

Clearly H2G2 only accepts stuff that is totally original and nobody here ever using the words of others even with referencing, so thats fine. I'm just rather bemused by how this rule applies here given other people seem to quote others freely and not always with acknowledgement. LOL

Not arguing just pointing this out and as I said life's too short as it is without worrying about any of this.

Time to move on.

Bye. smiley - smiley

This will be my final H2G2 guide realted post, but just needed to say I find your last response offensive in the extreme.

I clearly stated from the start that my article was always about showing how the current medical view of a condition was right now, as per the direct link I had provided to the source material for it and then quoted from it in sections after having first researched the relevant sections of information from the far more extensive medical listing of the condition on that and other sites in order to save the reader having to locate the key sections and/or reading the entire report first before then going on to read my personal description of teh condition as a comparision for the very reasons I stated within the piece.

To be called a plagurist and/or just copy and paster rather than a researcher in such circumstances leaves me cold and so I will return to Ouch and leave this section of the Beeb to others better suited to it thank you. smiley - run

Oh and btw "thanks for all the smiley - fish"

I trust you dont need a fully referenced citation for this. smiley - magic

In reply to post 41:

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I can't speak for Alex of course but I'm sure no 'abject apologies' are needed.
If you dash off too quickly, he won't have much time to see your post.

Hope all goes well

very best regards

Sorry I don't find putting other's words into my own very rewarding let alone worthy of credit and/or praise especially when the original is far better and when that is exactly what I comparing my own perspective with.

The fact you seem incapable of understanding or accepting of this concept means I am more than happy not be in a guide that believes copyright and right to call ones work one's own relies just in the specific words one uses rather than the concepts and ideas being written about, including any detailed factual data available, not least when full credit is given to those who wrote what I then simply used as an example.

Again just to save those stumbling accross this discussion having to read the whole of my original submission this was its introduction.

Introduction.

Before looking in detail at what Hidradenitis Suppurativa means from a sufferer's perspective, it is perhaps useful to first refer to the accepted clinical descriptions of the condition in order to set the scene and provide suitable points of reference for that perspective.

There are many different "textbook" descriptions of Hidradenitis Suppurativa, many of which are woefully inadequate, which may explain some of the common misconceptions held not only by some sufferers but also lamentably by many members of the medical community.

Of the many available medical sources, I have decided to use extracts from the excellent eMedicine article about Hidradenitis Suppurativa written by Naveen Pokala, MBBS, MS, FRCS, Staff Physician, Department of Surgery, Bronx Lebanon Hospital, as it is clearly one of the most comprehensive, accurate, well researched and importantly up to date medical sources currently available.

This is why I find your remarks so offensive and must take it that H2G2 as a "guide" believes people putting others ideas and thoughts into their "own" words somehow makes it "Original Content" in some way. smiley - doh

I find it offensive that you're acting like we're the baddies for calling you on something that's against the <./>HouseRules</.>, no matter how you attempt to justify it. If there are many resources available, you can read them and write something of your own that's a synthesis of the information you learn from them. This is called "research".

So I'm done with this discussion. Good-bye.

Just in case the HeG2 Producer Sam doesn't pass on the link I sent them here it is as an aid to your collective editorial tool kit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism

Perhaps then you might accept the point I am making especially if you actually understood the meaning of the word you used and so why it upset and bemused me.

Peter, we all have to use our 'own' words within our researched Entries.

Even though you have written something and had it published, the BBC won't run the risk of plagiarism in any form.

For you to use your own work, you will need to re-write it sufficiently to get passed the <./>HouseRules</.>

We have been attempting to tell you this all the way through your time in PeerReview

So now I even have to re-write my own words too?

I know this is H2G2 and so presumably the whole concept of the guide is to be somewhat toungue in cheek, but this is actually getting more like the Twilight Zone with each new post.

Why is it none of you knows what the word plagiarism means even when given a link to a deffinition.

ROTFLMAO

Do what you will, as it seems you already are doing.

I am not in the mood for playing pedantics with you.

Goodbye.

Also see http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F75027?thread=6945560 Then perhaps the point I am making will be understood, not least in terms of just why I find this repeated and unwarranted charge of plagiarism so defamatory.

I know about that thread, it was me who notified the Eds you were there, as they request on their PS that message NOT be placed in that particular account.

If you are arguing with the Italics (BBC Staff), what chance to the rest of us have of explaining things to you?

Now I am going. Goodbye.
