Douglas Adams isn't really a 'star' though, is he.

terrific list- Nicole Kidman is Australian! as for Shakespeare and Chaucer, Those are a given . I'm more inclined to support those names which are theatrical rather than musical. Also those who have made a significant contribution leading to Britain as we know it today. How abour Winston Churchill or James Watt?

Let's not forget that the Hollywood walk of fame isn't limited to Americans, so why should a British equivalent?
Douglas Adams wasn't a star in the same manner as, for instance, Michael Caine or Laurence Olivier, but I don't think this project should be entirely about 'being a star', but about being famous and well-loved by the masses.

Should, of course, read 'Let's not forget that the Hollywood walk of fame isn't limited to Americans, so why should a British equivalent be limited to Brits?'

Incidentally, one of the Pythons was an American, you know.
NOT the Moody Blues--they get worse as time goes by, and nowadays only write the same two songs over and over again; "We are in peacenick hippie heaven because I have you" and "You were the best thing that I ever had, I must have you back." Disgraceful. They can't stay in tune, or together on any beat. And for some reason unclear to me, people keep PAYING to listen to their unimaginative crap.
PLEASE not Christopher Wren.

I was wondering what the criteria were. They've said they have to be British subjects or of the Commonwealth (hence Kidman), but I imagine they will only be including Commonwealth stars who are well-known in the UK. But what are the other limits? Are sports stars to be included? Is it just 'entertainment'?

Personally, I would prefer to keep it to entertainment - in other words, the arts. Music, film, writing, theatre, painting, sculpture etc.

I don't think Douglas Adams is anywhere near well enough known to be included.
I'm betting if you walked down your local high street, you'd struggle to find one in ten people who knew who he was.

That depends on which High Street, if you try Brentwood High Street I think you'd get a better hit rate than 1 in 10...

I live in Brentwwod and I'm guessing you'd do a lot worse than 1 in 10. About 1 in 20-25 would be my guess for Brentwood.

If the answer is yes, how about Sir Donald Bradman? I recently attended a college cricket match in a suburb of Houston, Texas, the players being mostly students from India and Pakistan. I was trying to remember the name of the great West Indies player who participated in an instructional cricket video I bought from Amazon UK (Gary Sobers), so I asked one of the players, "Who is the greatest cricket player ever?" He immediately said "Donald Bradman." That didn't help me with my question, but it qualifies as world wide fame, IMHO.
