Warnings on the consumption of slushies:
1. Brain freeze - this condition is caused by rapid consumption of a slushie. Many people who are unaccustomed to slushies are afflicted with this when having a slushie for the first time. Try consuming slower to avoid this. It is also rumored in some circles that pressing one's tongue to the roof of the mouth can negate this effect, although it takes a certain degree of expertise to accomplish this.
2. Cravings and Voices - this is a symptom found in more "hardcore" slushie drinkers. A person who has consumed many slushies from a certain machine can develop an affinity for that machine, and suffer less fulfillment from other slushies and feel a yearning when close to the machine of their familiarity.
3. Addiction - like with many other beverages, slushies can become addictive. When consumed frequently, a need for them will form. It is also known that these addictions can be triggered by climate and location. Since the slushie is a warm weather beverage, it is possible for the afflicted consumer to feel nothing during cold times of the year, but to suddenly develop cravings during the summer monthes.
Flavor mixes:
These flavor combinations have been known to cause an increase in the addiction factors of slushies, and are local to the eastern part of Pennsylvania. Similar mixtures may go by other names in other locals. All measurements are written for a 12 fl. oz. slushie, and it is not recommended that a beginner to slushies begin with these mixes.
Suicide: The Suicide (a.k.a. T9) consists of 2-6 squirts of every flavor. The number of squirts is determined by the drinker's tolerance to slushies, but should never exceed 21 total squirts. This is approximately 3 squirts of the 7 basic flavors.
Owen Suicide: As above, however, this involves between 22 and 42 total squirts. This is usually not recommended for any but the most extreme drinkers.
Owen Surprise: The Owen Surprise (a.k.a. "Wake Up Juice") is a revolting mixture to all but the most extreme drinkers, and many of them have sworn it off as the work of dark powers interfering in the world of slushies. The Owen Surprise is exactly what the Owen Suicide is, except it uses no ice. This is borderline of "anti-slushie", but has been served on rare occasions, always by accident. This researcher has be unable to find a slushie vender who would willingly serve an Owen Surprise.
Kelly: This is a rather tame mixture of 3 squirts blue raspberry and 3 squirts lemon-lime. It is quite a soothing mixture, but has been known to cause brain freezes more commonly than many other mixtures.
Kelly Wave: This is a standard Kelly filled half way with ice and topped off with Sprite soda. The Kelly Dark is a Kelly Wave in which the Sprite was replaced by Coke. This has never been tried using Pepsi products, but should have similar effects.
Drowning Fish: This version of a Suicide has Swedish Fish added. The fish will slowly sink to the bottom, and will have absorbed most of the flavor by the time they are consumed.
Please enjoy these flavors, but always remember to drink responsibly, never drink a slushie while driving, as the number of brain freeze related automobile accidents is on the rise from irresponsible drinkers and always drink slowly to avoid brain freezes.
