<H2>The Basics and History of the Area</H2>
<P>
The biggest little city in the southwest is located about 70 miles west of London, Ontario and about 60 miles north northwest of Detroit Michigan, right were Lake Huron and the St. Clair River meet, in the county of Lambton. The population is 73,000 and is run by Mayor Mike Bradly, who has served office for almost 15 years.
<P>
Sarnia, in a nutshell, owes it's entire exsitance to oil. Long before the Barnes and the Ewings names found fame on TV's Dallas, those families farmed for oil in Lambton County. It was here the first commercial oil well in North America was dug. It was found in Oil Springs and Petrolia, Ontario (both 20-30 miles south of Sarnia), both of which are a fair distance inland from the bank of the river and the lake. So they built a road out of wood planks (because of the rather muddy landscape Lambton County has) leading up to Sarnia (known to residents as Plank Road) and the soon to be oil refinaries of the new city. Today, companies such as Bayer, Dow, Shell and Sinoco have all made homes in Chemical Valley. Soon, Sarnia's place in the industrial world will expand with the creation of a automotive assessories plant in the future.

<BLOCKQUOTE>(From <A HREF="http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com">www.quinnessworldrecords.com"</A>)<BR/> "The Big Kiss", as the attempt at the world record was titled, was organized by Radio Sarnia Lambton of Ontario, Canada. Taking place on February 11, 2000, there was inevitably a Valentines Day theme running throughout, with vendors at the event selling flowers, chocolates and other gifts. There was also live music provided by the Montreal-based group See Spot Run, amongst others, and couples taking part entered a draw to win a trip for two to Montreal. Entrance to the event was free, but people were urged to bring food for the area’s local food banks, and in doing so managed to amass over two tonnes of donations. The 1,588 couples kissed for 10 seconds, breaking the city’s own previous record. Adelle Richards, Director of Community Relations for the radio station and coordinator of The Big Kiss, said, “I knew we could do it. There was a huge demand to make the Big Kiss an annual event. We did it last year, we did it again this year - and breaking the record proves we are the kissing capital of the world!”</BLOCKQUOTE>
