2 Conversations

Ternopil is in the western Ukraine and is situated on Podilya highland. It was once the capital of the Western Ukrainian Republic and Galicia Soviet Socialist Republic. There are two hypotheses of origin of the name of the town. Some people think it originates from Ukrainian word teren(thorn) and pole(field), others that from the surname of Krakov landlord Tarnovsky who founded the town in 1540 and Greek word polis(town). For a long time it was under the rule of Polish landlords and since 1772 till 1918 it belonged to Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Ternopil suffered horrible destruction during the years of 2 world wars. In the post-war period the town was rebuilt. In the world Ternopil is famous by its medical university. Many people from Africa and Asia go in the town in order to study medecine. After the proclamation of independence of Ukraine many entertainment establishments were opened in Ternopil. There are many hotels, bars, cafes, restaurants, cinemas in the town. In the centre of Ternopil there is beautiful theatre, in which one can see performances of European level. In Ternopil there are 5 parks, a lake and a river. Near Ternopil there is a wonderful forest. Many kinds of wild flowers grow in it. All people who visit Ternopil are enchanted by its beauty.
