Now that I've had my moan...I'll be quite happy to contribute anything I'm able on the social history of golliwogs, in the interests of achieving a fair and balanced Entry.
I suggest that one way to go might be to contrast the apparent puzzlement some feel about fuss with the offence felt by others. This would, however, require you to re-address such implications as that golliwogs have suffered from the attention of a 'PC Brigade'.
It's just that previously I had no evidence that the social aspects were being taken seriously.

There was an extremely relevant radio 4 programme toay about Enid Blyton, which covered golliwogs. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fm031
Two significant things that I picked up:
1) Golliwogs were edited out of her books in the 1970's *at the behest of Blyton's family*. They were responding to a general social awakening, rather than being pressurised by an organised lobby.
2) A comment fro a member of an Enid Blyton appreciation society to te effect that golliwogs had suffered from a right-wing 'Save Our Golliwog's' campaign. ie the opposite of a left-leaning 'ban the golliwog' lobby.
It was an extremely thoughtful programme and worth listening to. I don't *quite* buy the argument that Enid Blyton was 'of her time' - there were plenty of people of her generation who thought differently - but at least it talks about how attitudes naturally change over time.

Oof. I see this is now labelled 'Deleted'. I do hope not. It could - should - still be rescued.

What a pity. This was a great entry which would have become part of the Edited Guide with a little more work.

I think there is room for a golliwog entry in the Guide too

This sentence can't be right, can it?
"It's possible Queen Victoria's grandchildren played with one when she was a little girl"

Hello kzwg, this article is no longer in review, so further comments will not be acted upon.
I note it has been reinstated from "deleted" though, and checking the Entry itself shows it has been placed in the Flea Market. Until someone rescues it, attends to the comments here, and presents a new article to Peer Review, only then fresh comments will be actioned

Opti, you weren't tempted to let Edward do it, since he had just volunteered, and is eminently capable of doing it?

And consider, do you know the social history of Golliwogs? That's the only thing that was missing from the original entry.

There is that. Somehow, I read that posting as Edward's, not Opti's, wasn't expecting someone else...

Oh. In that case, go ahead. None of us were aware that it was in the Flea Market. Edward can make his comments on your entry when it goes into Peer Review.
