Rodan! The flying monster
Created | Updated Feb 4, 2009
As people around the village begin worrying about the things that are in the mine the owners decide to send in a group of scientists to see what could have caused the problem. Once they arrive they send out a small expedition down into the mine and as they go deeper they see a giant cavern with two eggs resting within it. It was with this instance that we discovered the creatures that attacked the miners. These were small creatures that were like maggots and were being eaten by the things hatching from the eggs. As the eggs began to hatch they revealed two terrifying creatures resting within. They were pre-historic monsters called pteranodon and it is from this word that we get the name Rodan. After they are discovered they emerge from the mining cavern and begin to attack Japan.
It was during this time that they showed how powerful they really were, they flew at supersonic speeds and crushed buildings with their wings. As fighter planes attempted to stop them the creatures sailed over them and the force caused the planes to explode. During the middle of the first film the creatures landed and began flapping their wings causing hurricane force winds knocking down everything in site. The film ends with the monsters returning to the mining shaft and being attacked by the military forces. A volcano explodes and they are both caught in the fire and molten lava.
It was never explained why the creatures were resurrected in the other Godzilla movies possibly because their had been other eggs left that were un-touched by the lava. After the first movie Rodan became the co-star of Godzilla on many movies including the last two that have recently been released.
