smiley - cool

Sorry to sound like a pedant.
The entry is nice and should be well suited to the edited guide smiley - smiley

I'll go and look for the other thread...

BTW if there's more than one thread in Peer Review all but one will ahve to be sin-binned - but I'm sure that's not a problem as one *will* remain smiley - smiley

Hi again Shagbark.

I had a look and this is the only thread in Peer Review, don't worry about the misspelling in the initial title, you'll notice that I've corrected the spelling now. I think here is the best place to discuss changes as that will alert more scouts than myself which can only be a good thing smiley - smiley
I've had a more detailed look at the article now and have a few more comments to make.

First of all, I would drop the colons and > signs in the subheaders, they don't really add anything to the subheaders and would probably be removed upon sub-editing anyway.

Secondly I would suggest that you remove the tags, particularly in the first section. This was a criticism of style in one of my articles so I did this too (smiley - winkeye).
Different browsers have different screen widths and the layout can change for each person, its much better to simply put a paragraph inside tags and let it self wrap. Its just that it tends to look better.

It might be advisable to put a footnote in to explain what USGS is - I'm guessing its the United States Geological society but I don't know, neither will a lot of readers. Also, it might be an idea to put the deifinition of a fault in as a blockquote, it will highlight it making it easier for the reader to see.
According to the writing guidelines for the guide, use ' marks instead of " marks as they look better and save space. In the case of "dip-slip" faults mind you I would be tempted to simply italicise the words or even use bold lettering - just my own preference in style that one mind.

"Since these faults are inactive earthquakes are highly unlikely."
I may be being a bit picky with this sentence but it implies to me that all dip-slip faults are inactive which I'm sure isn't the case.
Maybe reword it to: Since this faults in this area are inactive, earthquakes are highly unlikely. ?

What is a Rock Hound - is the geologists equivalent of a 'twitcher' (extremely enthusiastic bid watcher)?

Maybe a footnote to explain the term 'syncline'.

Hope that didn't read too heavily. I do really like the article and the subject matter. I particularly like the way you give directions so people can go and have a look themselves. Making these changes (which you can ignore if you like - up to you) will encourage further scouts and enhance the possibility of it being reccomended for inclusion in the guide.
Its well on the way to that in my opinion.

A Rock Hound is a fanatic for looking at rocks. I don't think
I will define it in site but I did add the footnote for the
US Geological survey complete with a link to their homepage
and I have a link to some artwork in the Merium Webster
dictionary which shows a syncline. I had a little trouble with
The GUIDEML (the more involved I get the less likely I am to get it right) I did take out the BR/ and trying to put in P marks
just gave me error messages so I left those out also.

Hi, fair enough.
Actually (and obviously I'm guilty of this) too many critics in PR hint at GuideML mark ups. The guide does give an option for text only entries as some people (inluding myself a few months ago) have no idea about mark up languages so don't worry about the GuideML - that wouldn't stop me recommending it - and shame on anyone it did.

Anyway, I think this is smiley - cool now.

Anyone else have any comments?...

This article has vanished from my page and calling it up I get some
balderdash about house rules. I know a couple of those hyperlinks may have been in moderation but I can't think of any reason for them
to not let me edit it.

Hmmm smiley - erm

Have you asked why down at the Moderation Help Desk?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Moderation-HelpDesk

They're pretty helpful.

Incidetally, you can probably still edit it. I may be wrong but try editing it and updating with no changes - it may reappear.

You are right about the edit screen coming up. The only thing I see there wrong is a broken link. I left word at the moderation desk
11 hours ago so far no response. I have to log off in about ten minutes and won't be back until tommorrow.

Hmmm, a broken link simply just gets a [link removed by moderator] - I know they did that on my homepage once smiley - erm.

Ha well, looks forward to the article returning. smiley - smiley

I wonder why this thread acts discontinuous sometimes.
Do you suppose the programmers never anticipated a change in spelling?

Well probably because there was not much more to be said smiley - smiley

Well done. This article has been recommended and accepted to be included in the edited guide.
It will shortly be sent of to a sub-editor for editing and will then be polished by the senior editors before being queued for its debut on the front page. This process may take sometime (although less than it spent in Peer Review I dare say smiley - erm) so please be patient. You will be informed on email when the article is due on the front page.
