'eg the temperature wouldn't be too extreme if a planet orbited there.'

is fine, but is it necessary to mention 'our' Jupiter <(our Jupiter has over 60 moons)> again 2 lines down?

Otherwise, it's looking good.

One thing I'd consider is a definition of super-Earth. Is it a particularly big Earth or a clone of Earth where the trains run on time and English Heritage membership is free?

Gnomon - time to move on

I've a few more questions and suggestions.

I'm not sure what this bit means:

carbon dioxide gas (CO2) in the atmosphere sinks and is released through plate tectonics

What do you mean by "sinks"? Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere does not sink to the bottom of the atmosphere, but is evenly distributed by diffusion throughout all the atmosphere. Perhaps you mean "is removed from the atmosphere", but it is an odd way of saying it.

an ambient climate -- what do you mean by "ambient" here? Doesn't it just mean "the conditions of the vicinity"? Don't all moons have an ambient climate?

"its orbit would have to be retrograde" -- you should add ", that is, in the opposite direction to the orbiting star".

within the Milky Way --> within the Milky Way Galaxy

at the just-right distance --> at just the right distance

You say that Gliese 581 c and Gliese 581 g are both super-Earths in the habitable zone, but later you say that "one such planet" was detected in the Gliese 581, without saying which one. OK, I can find out it is g by following the link, but you should say it, and perhaps explain why the other one is not suitable.

By the time we get our new-look h2g2 with the lots of new entries per week that the Eds promised us, all the good writers will have got bored and wandered off.smiley - sadface

I know I have no more interest in writing for the Edited Guide when they're not going to be published any time soon.

Apologies for the delay! But please do remember there are only two of us (and sometimes it's just one when the other is away) and we're working flat out on the redesign at the moment. That's why things are slower than usual. We ask you to please bear with us. smiley - ok

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
