Love on Glamour Life

She cheerfully designed her avatar
to be a beautiful and lively woman
with clouds of flaming hair and pretty face,
dressed in skinny-fitting cowboy clothes.
She called herself DJ on Glamour Life
enjoyed herself and mesmerised the men.
She quickly met a handsome, macho man
who built a chalet for his avatar,
parked gunships to impress on Glamour Life.
He considered her a charming woman
chatted and admired her virtual clothes,
until one day they dated face to face.
This disappointed: her real life face
dissolved in fat, while the real man’s
belly overflowed his daytime clothes.
Despite the contrast with their avatars
she thought him company for a woman
agreed to stay with him in real life.
They wed in tropical style in Glamour Life:
she wore bridal white and veiled her face,
he chose a tailored suit to wed his woman;
she pledged a solemn vow to love her man.
But still they talked to roaming avatars,
traded music, property and clothes.
As she shopped for stylish virtual clothes
she found her man absorbed in Glamour Life
flirting with a glamorous avatar;
accused him of lying to her face,
called him a false and faithless man
who had relationships with other women.
He alleged she was a jealous woman
that he’d only talked of jobs and clothes.
She sought divorce from her real-life man
quit his house to start another life.
She never consents to meet him face-to-face
but still encounters his false avatar.
How strange that avatar and woman
differed in every way, from face and clothes
to the story of her life, her love, her man.
