In recent years, thanks to hollywood films such as The Last Samurai and Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai, the name of Yamamoto Tsunetomo has become more mainstream. Most people are aware of his bushido teachings compiled in Hagakure, but few know of the mans life.

Yamamoto was born in Katatae, a village in the Nambeshima fiefdom in the Saga reigon of Japan on the 12th of June, 1659.

YAMAMOTO TSUNETOMO This man was born on June 12th 1659 in Katatae, an area of the Nabeshima fief. This is about ten minutes walk from the castle. Nowadays both Katatae and Nabeshima are part of 104 year old Saga City. A city that of course covers a wider area. Although much of the old town remains intact.
