The Ten Films
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
Back in college, when I was studying Film Production, I gave myself this
thought exercise:
You are going on a long space mission, which will take the rest of your life.
Allowable weight for personal items is very restricted. You will be allowed
to take copies of 10 movies. They must be movies that you will never get
tired of, and if necessary be content with watching only them. What
are the 10 movies?
I did not put any time restrictions on my selection process, and that was
a good thing. It took me years to fill all the spaces on the list.
I have since extended the list a bit, but hey - after 25yr of thinking about
it, it's still pretty tight. Besides, we have DVDs nowadays, which are lighter
than video cassettes. Here's my list.
My Ten Films
The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T
The Point!
The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao
Time Bandits
Heartbeeps
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Field of Dreams
Heroes
Rollerball
Silver Streak
The President's Analyst
You're a Big Boy Now
The Italian Job
11 Harrowhouse
Hanger 18
Silent Running
So, what does the list say about me?
Well, for one, they are all kinda quirky films, surreal. They also all show us something wonderful about ourselves. There is hope for us, that we have a future; and that we are each responsible for how the future turns out. What they say, and how they say it resonates within me.
Oh, and The Gumball Rallye. Just because it's fun, and stars Raul Julia and
a Shelby Cobra.
So what's your list? And what does it say about you?
