Why can't I have a normal dog?

I've got quite an unusual dog. He plays golf, drives a car, plays tennis, builds advavced constructions, conversates in "volapyk" language, takes care of a bird named Woodstock and drinks alot of root beer.
But why does it bother me that my dog is better than me? Or why does it bother people in general that anyone are better than others. Why can't the wife make more money than the husband, and why do neighbours compeede in having the nicest car or garden? There's always someone better than you, so why bother even trying?
Good grief!
