Ian Dury was one of those rare musicians who earned the respect of fans and fellow musicians from every genre, due to his quirky style and infectious good nature. Though he didn't have the commercial success he perhaps deserved, it is difficult to find a music lover who has not heard of Ian Dury.
At the age of seven, Dury caught polio in Southend-on-Sea, which meant he was partially paralysed down his left side ,and after spending two years in hospital, he attended a school for the physically handicapped. This was followed by a place at the Royal College of Art in London and after he graduated, Dury taught painting at Canterbury Art College. It was while he was a teacher that Dury formed his first band - Kilburn and the High Roads - in 1970
