Hermaness National Nature Reserve is situated at the northern end of island of Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands group. The island itself is reached by either ferry from Mainland Shetland via the adjoining island of Yell, or by short flight from Mainland (Sumburgh)to the airstrip at Baltasound. Drivers who come by ferry are asked to keep a sharp look-out for sheep and ponies, which wander free throughout the island, as few fields are fenced.

Aside: Don't ask about rail travel: Nearest main line railway station is in NORWAY!!!

There is a hotel at Baltasound, where accommodation may be booked (Telephone 01975 711334 or E-Mail [email protected])
