Capoeira

1 Conversation

Capoeira is the national sport of Brazil which involves two people beating the bananas out of each other to the accompanyment of rythmic music.
Capoeira was first developed amoung escaped slaves in the mountain city Palmares, and used as a weapon to successfully repel armies trying to reach the city. After the abolition of slavery, Capoeira was practiced in the slums by assasins, bandits, outlaws, brazilian special police and the like. Due to Brazilian politics, Capoeira was illegal until 1920, and the first school was not built until 1937. Today, Capoeira makes itself felt in break-dancing, Capoeira schools, and Tekken 3.
