A h2g2 farmer dies and leaves his sheep to his three sons. Peanut is to get 20 per cent more than Yippa, and 25 percent more than Chuckles. Yippa's share is 3600 sheep.
How many sheep does Chuckles get?

Ok, what I did was 3600 * 1.20 to get Peanut's amount (y) and the divided y by 1.25 to get Chuckles' lot, because if chuckles got x and y = x*1.25 then y/1.25 should equal x.
But 3/4 of y = 3240 which was TIMELORD's answer.
Don't know which (if either) is right!
k - not coping with the uncertainty.

C got 3456
Y got 3600
P got 4320/3600 = 1.2 = 20% more than Y
P got 4320/3456 = 1.25 = 25% more than C

But if Peanut is to get 20% more than Yippa, as the question is worded, he would have have 100% to Yippa 80%.
Therefore 3600/80 * 1000 = 4500
And chuckles would have 75% of this 4500* 0.75 = 3375
So it very much depends on the grammatical sense of the question that Greebs is after.

No. If I get 100% and you get 80%, you get 20% less than me, but I get 25% more than you. That's the way percentages work.

Yeah but it is Peanut getting 20% more.
I hate this the english always did confuse me in maths.
My answer looks more likely if this came off a maths paper though they tend to make these things look easy.
Besides which I wasn't first so had to find an alternative plausible answer.
