The hero of the movie, Sam Lowry, is a dreamer. In his dreams he is a superhero, soaring high into the heavens and saving damsels in distress. Unfortunately for Sam, he really is a simple records clerk in a world so completely overtaken with bureaucracy, as to make Vogons seem spontaneous and whimsical.
Sam tries to help his boss fix a bureaucratic cock up and the series of events that follow spins rapidly out of control. Could it be that Sam is on the way of realizing his dreams?
You will have to watch the film to find out off course.
The film is written and directed by ex-python Terry Gilliam (with help from Tom Stoppard and Charles McKeown on the writing). Jonathan Pryce plays Sam. If you watch the movie carefully you may also find Katherine Helmond, Robert De Niro, Ian Holm, Bob Hoskins, Michel Palin, Kim Greist and others.
The film is hilariously funny; though perhaps a little bleak (you have been warned!). The script is sparkling with wit, the performances are spot on and the direction is nothing short of brilliant. Put all those together and what you get is a truly great film.
A must see for all Terry Gilliam fans (those that for some unimaginable reason haven’t seen it yet) and highly recommended for all movie buffs out there.
Enjoy.
