Ah, I had assumed that the Space Center, with its hangars and stuff, was not the same as the Space Station, which is definitiely in geosynchronous orbit above The Town.

Well unconfuse me then! Where is the Space Center?

The space centre is in orbit above the space station so it goes faster, I think.

If it were to crash then the whole of h2g2 Island would be swamped smiley - sadface

OK. Two geosynchronous orbits are not possible IRL but we can write new laws of physics for h2g2 I suppose.

I never said it was geosyncronous.

True. I will investigate further.

If it's not in geosynchronous orbit how can you be certain that a crash would swamp h2g2 island. Also, how do people without personal spacecraft get to the Space Center?

I can be certain because it is large enough to generate a "superwave" that would swamp the island. I never said it would crash directly.

They go on board by taking a TimeSlide.

And where might I find this TimeSlide?

It is a concept smiley - smiley

There are a few rules but more or less anything can take be slid.

It looks like a steely ring. A control station is by the slide and military steps lead from the opposite side of the ring onto a metal grill set just below the upper edge of the ring. The slide ring is set about 6 feet above the ground and a metal sheath protects nearby observers from getting damaged by radiation.

Upon beginning a connection, clunks can be heard as relays flip and fields come online. As the connection is established, a roar of energy explodes from the ring's upper service and whatever was on the grill is slid to the destination. However, the slide remains open for longer and manifests as a rippling sheet of energy that seems to slosh from side to side. The slide can be switched off by the controls, at which point the system goes "green" (ready/standby)

In the Post Article, the Space Center is floating just above the surface of the planet. The Big C also believes that the Space Center is nearly on the planet and not above his Space Station.
