A Human Condition Insight (or First thought of the day)
Created | Updated May 3, 2005
Humans are mentally active for every waking minute, in most cases.
This is usually triggered when exiting sleep mode, by a surge of activity, much like a reboot or data purge.
Dreams are mostly accepted as the activity experienced when beginning to wake up. They are influenced by memory and imagination. These two will fight for domination of the dream every single time. The human becomes the victim of the dream, without the right to immunity. Daydreams, however are a slightly different matter. The battle for domination still exists, but the sleep element is often absent. This type of dream is true evidence that humans can be taken over by imagination and memory. A true contradiction of these elements therefore exists. Why is this the case? A hefty combination of imagination and memory can lead to confusion, even fear when waking from a dream. But, memory helps humans to evolve decision making processes and promotes social standing. It assists in remembering who friends and family are and who to avoid. Imagination drives ambition and creativity. Without either of the two, the question ‘who are you again?’ would be asked more often and invention would never have been invented.
Dreams influence the first thought of the day to a varying extent. For example, dreaming of eating a big juicy burger can lead to such first thoughts of the day as “I’m too hungry to get up” and “I really must put a sleeping bag in the kitchen so I don’t have so far to walk in the morning”.
Without these first thoughts, there would be no thoughts at all, for even if you save thinking until later in the day, at some point, you would still have to have a first thought, don’t you think?
