Today i finally got to plant the grasses, in the flower bed i created round the pond. Also my verbascum seedlings and the pennisetum seedlings, along with the 3 echiums, were planted in drifts amongst the grasses.
I'm looking forward to when they grow and mature, it should look very pretty.
Other plants are now in bud. Acanthus, Alliums, peony's, centurea and my viburnum plicatum. Forget-me-not cover just about every flower bed in the garden. It looks stunning just now.

9th May 2005
I havent done much in the garden the past week. Mainly due to the weather and work. Lots more things are starting to bloom now. My viburnum plicatum is in full flower along with Potentilla (Abbots wood) Aquilegias of various colours. My Acanthus has two large flower spikes emerging and the two tall Aliums (purple sensation) are almost fully open. The yellow centurea i planted last year has a big fat bud coming up and the peony is covered in round, deep red buds about to burst open.
Everything in the garden is looking lovely just
now <biggrin>

Today has been a beautiful day. Lots of sun and warmth.
I finally got round to planting my Magnolia Stellata. I've had the thing a couple of months now. Hopefully it should do well in the spot i planted it.
I bought some new long handled shears for trimming the edges of the grass. They are good and saved all that crawling around on the grass with my usual shears.
I've put some water snails in my pond, so far thats the only water creatures in there, aside from some mosquito larvae <cross>
More flowers are blooming. Osteospurnum (South African daisies) Ceanothus (Concha) which is a lovely shade of blue. Saxifrage (Londons pride) which look lovely growing through the
forget-me-not's (Mysotis) <biggrin>

Its been a wierd month weather wise. Lots of cold windy days, some rain but not enough to do the garden any good.
Still, at least the poor plants havent curled up thier roots.....yet!
The forget-me-not's have almost finished now.So i've begun the task of pulling them up to allow other things to grow. The perennial poopy i planted 2 years ago, has produced its first flowers. A vibrant cherry red, with a black centre, The are huge flowers with a diameter of at least 6 inches. <cool>
The 2 unknown plants that appeared in the grass this year are also in bud. I'm almost certain there a another type of orchid. <wow> I won't know for sure untill they flower. The little wild spotted orchid is doing very well, a nice rosette of dotted leaves, bigger than last year. With hopefully some flowers to follow.
The pond is still full of mosquito larvea 'sigh'
the snails are thriving though. <biggrin>
I planted some irises last Autumn, called 'Bronze beauty' only they're not bronze <cross> They've come out blue & yellow, very pretty all the same, but i wanted bronze.
My solomans seal is out too, as yet it has'nt been eaten by sawfly caterpillars, though i'm sure they will be here soon. Crafty little devils, i look for the eggs every year in an attempt to get rid of them before they hatch,
every year the little buggers out wit me.

Yet again i've been out smarted by the Solomans seal sawfly, the leaves are being eaten by those caterpillars again. <grr>
The two unkown plants have finally revealed what they are <biggrin> I now have 2 Bee Orchids in the garden. I was so thrilled when the first flower opened, The spotted orchid has 2 flower spikes and should open within the next couple of weeks.
The pond is proving to be a pain, it now has some blanket weed in it <cross> I will now have to get something to kill it.
In other news. All the foxgloves are in flower, i love foxgloves :) The delphiniums are in bloom as well. The sweetpeas
are doing well and should produce some fragrant flowers.
