Sub editor requested - it's the fort that counts
Bluebottle Started conversation Apr 12, 2011
Sub editor(s) requested for a Uni Project on the Fortifications of the Isle of Wight (see: A83112518). A series of 27 articles describing the history of forts on the Isle of Wight from the Victorian period to the present day.
The project can be divided into 3 sections if no-one wishes to handle all 27 articles in one go - East Wight, West Wight and the Solent Sea Forts.

Bluebottle, can I just ask you before you start to make things easier for the sub by paying attention to the following:
1. Don't use extended characters such as an e with an accent on it. Use the & codes instead (é and so on).
2. Don't include links in the references section to irrelevant entries. Only link to entries that are relevant to what you are writing about. So for example, in an entry on forts in the Isle of Wight, you shouldn't link to "Aircraft of the Isle of Wight", unless the fort happens to be beside the airfield.
These could save the sub-editor hours of work when the same corrections have to be made over 27 entries.

Hello, thanks for your interest.
You'll be pleased to know that in the 5 articles written so far there are no funny foreign letters. There were in the ones about Asterix, which as they were French films did indeed have them frequently, however I do not foresee that being the case with the British forts on the Isle of Wight.
No links in the references to irrelevant entries are included. But you'll be pleased to know that Saunders-Roe, who built several aircraft of the Isle of Wight as well as hovercraft, did use 2 of the forts as a rocket testing site, so the aircraft links are indeed entirely relevant.
So, are you potentially interested?

The project is a third written and still no sub-editors have expressed interest. Any takers?

That would be great - I'll add your name to the Project Page. Are you taking on all the articles?

Why not? I'll need some time once I've got editing rights, though - if we were talking one entry a week, it would come out at half a year!

I've only written half, so it won't be for a while yet anyway.
Good to see you volunteering to take this on, I was afraid no-one would want to do it.

You're not secretly planning on only pretending to edit these articles, and really hide them away where no-one will ever find them, so you can stay 1 article ahead of me in the 'who has written the most articles' page, are you?

You got me.
Actually, I was thinking of writing an article of my own for every one that I sub, but I'm not sure how that would even begin to work. I might keep your idea as a backup plan .

Well, the project is two thirds complete now, just the last few and some finishing touches to go.

Crumbs! I think you may deserve that rest. I'll send the email to ask for control of the entries (you have made a copy, haven't you?)

Looking good so far. But would it be possible to add references to my newly edited article on Winchester Castle, Hampshire?
