Why has no one else commented on this page. There are no two ways about it, john peel (or john Ravencroft, or ravenscroft, or whatever) entirely deserved the "godlike genius" award he won a few years back. The man has, in my opinion, probably contributed more to british music (well, the stuff that is of any worth) than john lennon. My mate's dad knows him, and he is one of the few radio/tv personnalities that you KNOW is a decent bloke when off air. why can't he have a whole radio station to himself? that would be heaven.
