The latest epistle of complacency is as follows...
"Thank you for your email of 16 March which has been forwarded to me as I am responsible within the Department for City Technology College (CTC) liaison.
I should first explain that City Technology Colleges are independent schools funded by the Department through a Funding Agreement with the Secretary of State. Amongst other things the Funding Agreement requires CTCs to provide a broad and balanced curriculum with an emphasis on science and technology and to teach the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum.
As a result of media interest in the teaching of creationism at Emmanuel College Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools wrote to the Chairman of the College's Governing Body to seek assurances that the College was fulfilling its responsibilities in relation to the teaching of National Curriculum science. The Chief Inspector was satisfied that the College is meeting the requirements of the curriculum as they apply to CTCs.
The College is providing a broad and balanced curriculum with an emphasis on science and technology and teaching the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum. It is not in breach of its Funding Agreement.
