This is why I think that it is about time that we get to know about them.
Orcs stand at about 4-6' the male being larger than the female, and the youngsters being quite alot smaller.
Orcs vary in color from brownish green over Brown to a greyish color, the color of orcs from a specifik clan usually have similar colors due to inbreed.
They have pointy ears, yellow eyes, and in the middle of they broad face, a snout-like nose. Don't let this fool you into believing that they look like a cute pig, they are often scared from battle, and look mean by definition.
An Orc will prefer to wear earth colors, and doesn't worry about holes or dirt. Most often, they just wear a piece of clothe to the neck or arounf the waist.
Orcs life in clans, the strongest and biggest orc being the leader. To take over the leadership of the clan, one need just to slay the former leader.
Orcs live from hunting, and raiding caravans and small towns. They also lie in war with their neighboors constantly, to expand their borders.
Many think that Orcs think little of their closely related kin, the small goblins, but actually they respect them much. Goblins are invited into Orc communities to fill importent jobs, such as garbage disposers and chairs. Also in battle, the little goblins are highly respected, they are often used in very special 'Cannon Fodder' platoons, an honor goblins all wish to experience, although few actually have been able to tell how it is to be in a 'Cannon Fodder' platoon, they believe the Orcs when they tell them of the brave goblins, ofcause.
The most dangerous thing to do when facing an Orc, is to underestimate it, although they doesn't use much battletechniques, and usually run if not outnumbering the enemy 2:1, they still know how to swing their swords and poke you with their spears. On top of that, they dosn't use much time cleaning their weapons, so a single hit but a Orc blade can be fatal!
The best way to handle a situation where you encounter a small band of Orcs (5-6 pcs) is to give them the impression that you could wipe them out without breaking sweat. More often than not, this will get them running.
This entry describes the 'ordinary' Orc, most often called the AD&D Orc. These Orcs are known from RPG games, CRPG games, and several books including 'The Hobbit' of J.R.R. Tolkien
There are many variations of the Orcs, from the ancient Orcs of mythology to Space Orcs, and they vary as much as a brick varies from a Mercedes.
I have even heard Goblins described as being larger Orcs.
But these must be described in other articles
