Freeport is home to the LL Bean company and its outlet store on Route 1 is a *huge* tourist destination.
Many (most?) of Stephen King's books are set in Maine.
One end of the Appalachain Trail is in Maine.
Cadallic Mountain (sp) is the first point in the US to receive the sun's rays. This mountain is located near Bar Harbor (Mt. Desert Island National Park).
Lobster fishing/eating is a big pasttime. I believe that you can get lobster at McDonald's. But it is best served boiled in a big kettle on the side of the road.

"I believe that you can get lobster at McDonald's."
Now that's the sort of thing that you want to know when you open up a Hitchhiker's Guide.
Thanks

It is always worth pointing out that lobsters are only red after they've been cooked.
Just about every Mainer has a story of sending a live lobster to the midwest (or Ohio) and having them throw it away because it was greenish black.
