Zambia

Zambia. Medium sized central Southern African Country. British Colony until 1964, when Kenneth Kaunda took over in a bloodless coup. He ruled a 'one party state' (how boring) until 1991, when multi party democracy (yay!) began. Population roughly that of London, area approaching that of Central Europe. (Not too sure about that, but it dwarfs anything in europe. Africa is like that)

Largely unspoilt natural beauty, due in part no doubt to the stagnant economy. Wildlife viewing is not cheap, but the Luangwa valley has some of the best viewing on the continent.
