Chip Pan and other Liquid based Fire's

As you should be aware you should NOT!! throw water onto a chip pan fire (or other liquid based fires). This is because when you do it causes a fire ball to explode into your face at extremely high temperatures.

The Science

When the Chip Pan Oil is burning and water is added the following happens:

Chip pan burning in Oxygen from the air + Water1 >>>>>> Oil takes Oxygen from the water to burn + leaving Hydrogen (EXTREMELY FLAMABLE!!) >>>>>> Hydrogen then ignights and BANG!! it explodes, So there you now have a fire ball

Chip Pan Burning + O2 >>>>>>>>> Normal Fire

Chip Pan Burning + O2 >>>>>>>>> add water H2O >>>>>> (Chip pan takes O2 from water =) Chip Pan Burning + H2 >>>>>>> (Hydrogen Ignights) BANG!! as Hydrogen Ignights and Oil gets blown everywhere!!

1(H - Hydrogen, O - Oxygen)
