Open University

1 Conversation

I thought I'd write to say that becoming an Open University student was one of the best things I have ever done.It hasn't been easy with a family and then going back to work full time, but it has given me a real sense of achievement.
I began a course in Feb 1994, my son was only 3 at the time. I became a single parent by the October of that year and stayed that way until the end of the summer of 1995. Adrian moved in at the beginning of 1996, I went to work evenings and then full time at the beginning of 1997, after we got married.
I started my degree with a view to beginning a career in teaching by the time my son started secondary school. As I have got further on in my studies (this is my 6th consecutive year)I have changed my degree profile as more and more interesting courses have been brought out. I should gain my BA honours degree next year, but could postpone it for 2 years as there are a couple of courses which I like the sound of!
It has broadened my horizons and interests, I have met some brilliant people over the years at tutorials and summer schools from all backgrounds. I think everyone would benefit from this.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
